The competition was pretty tough in the technical categories this year; and although Mad Max: Fury Road surprisingly lost out on Best Visual Effects (more on that, later), the Academy more than made up for it by awarding the George Miller sequel/reboot both Sound categories - as well as Production and Costume Design. It's almost like the Academy were thinking, hey, we really want to give you Best Picture, but we can't do it - so as a consolation prize, please enjoy these several other awards. Really though, if a film scoops the most awards of any other film that year, doesn't that automatically make it the best picture? Forest for the trees, and all that?
