9. What If The DS9 Wormhole Opened Up To Borg Territory In The Delta Quadrant?

Deep Space 9 was an innovative take in the franchise due largely to the fact that it was set in a location that didn't move. The two preceding series were all about exploration, but DS9 was stationed outside Bajor, so exploration was somewhat limited.

Of course, that all changed with the discovery of a stable wormhole that opened into the Gamma Quadrant. Through the wormhole, Starfleet did end up exploring, and the path brought forth new enemies. The Dominion controlled much of the quadrant, and it saw an opening it couldn't refuse via the wormhole.

Of course, things would have worked out differently had the wormhole opened to Borg territory. An opening to the Alpha Quadrant would have been exactly what the Borg was looking for, and they would have brought war immediately. The conflict with the Dominion wasn't easy, but they were hardly a threat when compared to the Borg.

The Borg would immediately take DS9 and Bajor, which it would use as a staging point to assimilate the Alpha Quadrant. Keeping with the main characters of the series, Gul Dukat would be assimilated as an "ambassador" in much the same way Picard was made into Locutus of Borg.

The change would also establish a crossover with Star Trek: Voyager. Captain Janeway would have heard of the stable wormhole, and she would do whatever she could to take her crew through it to return home. It would have made for some interesting crossovers of characters, but Starfleet would probably have been screwed.
