10 Bill Murray Movies You Should Throw Out The Window

8. The Man Who Knew Too Little

Murray and the UK made an unusual combination in Jon Amiel's retro farce. This 1997 Hitchcock spoof saw him take the role of fish out of water Wallace Ritchie, who thinks he's part of an interactive theatre experience when in fact he's up to his neck in actual international intrigue. The shoot gave the actor a chance to perform with numerous British mainstays, including Alfred Molina, Richard Wilson, Joanne Whalley and Anna Chancellor. It was one of those films where the concept appeared to everyone as being absolutely hilarious. Sitting through it on the other hand? A different matter. Something about the placing of Murray in a downbeat old school comedy thriller just didn't work. He tried his best, but got stranded in a sea of tired gags and creaky characters. The similarly-styled Austin Powers debuted the same year, so perhaps producers thought Murray could lend his weight to the project. But whereas Mike Myers did it all with gusto, this movie plodded along like a British bobby full of steak and ale pie.
