10 Bizarre Favourite Films Of Great Directors

8. Quentin Tarantino - Psycho II

Quentin Tarantino has some eclectic tastes as a film fan. It's clear not just in his work, which references other films so heavily it's a miracle he's never been sued for plagiarism, but in the various movie lists he puts out there for all to see. In 2013, one of QT's top ten movies was 2011's The Lone Ranger, while Paul WS Anderson's The Three Musketeers made the cut as well. Tarantino, then, is an unpredictable creature when it comes to the films he admires. Perhaps most bizarre is his love of Psycho II, a film he thinks superior to Alfred Hitchcock's original, and which he once picked to open a film festival, such was his admiration for the director and Anthony Perkins's performance, which Tarantino considers to be better than his turn in Psycho. Worryingly, Tarantino apparently also prefers Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho to Hitchcock's version. Apparently QT isn't much of a fan of Hitchcock at all, but more a cheerleader for the imitated Hitchcock-esque style, one of the few styles of moviemaking he's yet to steal and use in his own films.

Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
