10 Bizarre Favourite Films Of Great Directors

4. Paul Thomas Anderson - Men In Black 3

As one of the great contemporary American filmmakers, Paul Thomas Anderson's opinions on films other than his own are taken very seriously. In and amongst the more conventional likes of The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre and North By Northwest, though, Anderson has a liking for belated Will Smith-starring sci-fi sequels. In 2012, Anderson expressed an admiration for Men In Black 3 with such fervour, it seemed likely that he'd accidentally wandered into the wrong screen and seen a different movie. Of Barry Sonnenfeld's trilogy capper, Anderson said in an interview, "It was f***ing great... the time travel stuff cry my eyes out. I'm a sucker for that stuff." In fairness, Anderson has some arguably more embarrassing film favourites - in a 2015 conversation with Mark Kermode, PTA admitted to being a fan of Adam Sandler movies. "It's a tie between Big Daddy and Happy Gilmore", he said, failing to realise neither was a great option.
