10 Bizarre Scenes Cut From Famous Movies

3. E.T. Watches People Sleep (E.T.)

E.T. The Extra Terrestrial deleted scene
HarperCollins, Universal Pictures

Steven Spielberg's E.T. is one of the most charming family movies ever, which is why it might surprise you to learn that a scene where the friendly alien watches a naked woman sleep was not only scripted, but filmed.

The scene would've shown E.T. heading into Elliot's mother's room, checking out her naked back, and then leaving some Reese's Pieces on her pillow. Basically, writer Melissa Mathison was attempting to imply here that E.T. - who the film makes clear is a curious little guy - had a major crush on Elliot's mum.

The filmmakers were obviously intending for this scene to feel heartwarming and funny, but it also sounds like it would've come across as creepy. Without being able to watch the full thing (curiously, it hasn't been included in any of the film's special editions or re-releases), still images - like the one above - are all we have to go on.

In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
