10 Body Horror Movies That Broke All The Rules

4. Tokyo Gore Police

There are many better body horror films than Tokyo Gore Police, but you're unlikely to find one more playful or creative.

The demented brainchild of director Yoshihiro Nishimura, the film takes place in a dystopian future Japan where a virus mutates humans into creatures called Engineers, which sprout weapons from their wounds.

What the film lacks in coherence it more than compensates for with its sheer go-for-broke insanity.

Some of the more memorable mutations include a woman with swords for limbs, another who resembles a skin-crawling woman-snail hybrid, and finally, a woman whose legs have been replaced with an alligator's gaping, snappy maw.

Despite the film's evidently modest budget, the creature effects are generally impressively nuanced, ensuring Tokyo Gore Police is at least as disgusting as it is completely hilarious.

Above all else, it radically challenged what a body horror movie could be.
