10 Bold Oscar Predictions For 2017

8. The Jungle Book €“ Best Visual Effects

While many of the other Academy Awards categories tend to shun blockbusters, the Best Visual Effects category is their time to not just shine, but to explode, collapse, and soar through the air in an incredibly realistic manner. At this point CGI is so impressive that it can be tough to pinpoint what's at the forefront, but it seems like Disney's adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book is one worth watching. Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Elf) what little we've seen of The Jungle Book is visually astounding, showing off not only a massive range of distinct animals, but of emotions, too. The recent Planet Of The Apes movies have shown how great special effects can render animals as soulful and expressive as humans, and if The Jungle Book manages to sell this compassion across an entire jungle of creatures, the results will be incredible. Though the likes of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, X-Men: Apocalypse and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will all be keen to vie for the Best Visual Effects Oscar, it's the humanity of The Jungle Book that will ensure its victory.
