4. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Best Costume Design
If there's one thing Rogue One desperately needs to get right it's the aesthetic of the original trilogy. If you compare the prequels to the originals and even the originals to The Force Awakens there are clear visual differences. The prequels are much less gritty, and The Force Awakens is something of an evolution its roots are clearly in the old, but it flourishes as something new. Putting these aside and returning to the look of A New Hope will be crucial. Thankfully, everything we've seen so far suggests that the costume design of Rogue One is going to be absolutely amazing. The single promotional image we've got perfectly captures the visual essence of the early films, and it's reported that Brian Muir, the original sculptor of Darth Vader's helmet, is back working on costumes. Over the years the Best Costume Design Oscar has commonly gone to dramas set during a specific time period The Great Gatsby, Anna Karenina, The Grand Budapest Hotel but 2017 is the year that applies to sci-fi, too. The ability to recapture the spirit of Lucas's original trilogy will be enough to ensure that Rogue One takes home the prize.
