10 Box Office Hits From 2014 Which Should Have Bombed

9. Lucy

Budget: $40 million Box office: $458.9 million 2014 has been a great year for Scarlett Johansson - she's enjoyed another outing with the Marvel team in Captain America: Winter Soldier as well as a solid, critically acclaimed performance in the experimental film Under The Skin, and her star vehicle Lucy also surpassed expectations at the box office. Whether or not Lucy deserved such success is a different question altogether - there was very little about the movie which made it stand out from the usual Luc Besson fare. With its goofy concept about what happens when we unlock the full potential of our brain to its generic action and ridiculous over the top ending, Lucy certainly takes itself a little too seriously given how immature it really is. Lucy might be Besson's most enjoyable bad movie in some time, but such an adolescent one trick pony film really doesn't deserve to rake in so much money when there are far better films out there more deserving of success. Whatever happened to Besson circa 1994 when he gave us great movies like Leon?
