10 Brilliant Movies That Inspired Annoying Cinematic Trends

2. Movie Parodies: The Second Coming - Scary Movie (2000)

scary-movie-1-1024Annoying Examples:Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Date Movie, Meet The Spartans All right, so maybe Scary Movie isn't a brilliant movie, but when it came out in 2000, it at least felt funny and kind of relevant. And given the sore lacking of parody movies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun throughout the '80s and the '90s, it was nice to have something akin to those flicks back in theatres. Maybe you had to be a teenager at the time to find it the least bit amusing? Still, I'd send Scary Movie back to its creators in a New York minute if it meant that we could rid ourselves of its truly horrifying legacy. Parody movies are the worst. I don't know what we expected, really, but Scary Movie did not have a positive influence on that forgotten sub-genre in the slightest. Whereas we might've remembered parody movies fondly at one point in cinematic history, it's impossible to think of anything else but the onslaught of painfully unfunny abominations that have arrived in the wake of Scary Movie's parody reprise. So now we've been treated to Epic Movie, Date Movie, Disaster Movie and countless sequels to the Scary Movie series that nobody really ever wanted or expected. Puke!
