8. Celia Imrie - The Phantom Menace
LucasfilmA film which has a highly conflicting reputation, thanks in part to what has to be the most hype surrounding a film ever, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace quickly became only the second film to take more than $1 Billion at the box office. For many however it is also remembered as one of the biggest disappointments in cinematic history, and caused a rift in Star Wars fandom that borders on the fanatical. With much of the filming having taken place within the M25 at Leavesden Film Studios, it also features many British actors, including Celia Imrie. While her name might not be the most recognisable, Imrie became a familiar face thanks to her frequent collaborations with Victora Wood and Julie Walters, particularly Dinnerladies, and Acorn Antiques. Audiences also recognise her from a string of appearances in British comedy films including Bridget Jones's Diary, and she was also the reason the Calendar Girls needed considerably bigger buns. Eagle eyed viewers will also recognise her as the first love of immortal Connor MacLeod in the 1986 cult classic Highlander. She later auditioned for the role of Shmi Skywalker but the part was eventually given to Pernilla August, a veteran of the screen in her native Sweden. Fighter Pilot Bravo Five may have been a smaller role however, but one alongside good company; Withnail & I and Wayne's World 2 star Ralph Brown played the squadron's commander Ric OliƩ.
