2. Anything Goes
This list couldnt call itself complete without Cole Porters 1934 musical concerning the comical and romantic shenanigans aboard an ocean liner headed from the U.S. to England. Since its inception, Anything Goes has remained one of the most popular and frequently revived Broadway musicals in history. The 2011 Broadway revival, featuring Sutton Foster and Joel Grey, garnered 9 Tony Award nominations. The production has been adapted to screen twice, most recently in 1956 which leaves plenty of room for a new film. There is an ongoing National Tour that began in 2012, so it may be awhile before we could see Anything Goes onscreen, but this particular Broadway mainstay has proved its continuing relevance and power many times over, and Hollywood would be wise to take note of it.
