10 Campy Halloween Films To Enjoy This Season

6. Halloween III: Season Of The Witch

Rocky Horror
Universal Pictures

What Halloween was meant to be before becoming what was essentially The Michael Myers show for almost a dozen films running, Halloween III busted out new ideas centred around the holiday that turned the series on its head.

Despite Michael Myers being a threat big enough to star in several movies, he never quite reached the levels of disturbing Season of the Witch was able to accomplish, with its chilling and effective witchcraft mask effects and the real insects and snakes used in the film's more gruesome scenes.

The bold style and cinematography of the film also places it firmly in the 80s, giving it its own visual appeal and going all out with its horrifying practical effects, (appropriate) obsessed with Halloween, every corner of the film injected with the holiday. Adding to its appeal was its combination of supernatural elements and evil, corporate science, with just the right amounts of camp to suspend disbelief.

An underappreciated classic, Halloween III was able to get creative with its horror, remind everyone what to fear in the coming season, and get its catchy and ultimately unsettling Halloween jingle stuck in the heads of everyone who watched it.
