10 Cancelled Movie Sequels (That Could Still Happen)

Cancellation

While not a sequel in the traditional sense, Doctor Doom counts as one in that, if it does happen, it will undoubtedly be part of a wider cinematic universe.

This one can be traced back to July 2017, when writer Noah Hawley revealed that he was working on a solo movie for the iconic Marvel villain, which he also wanted to direct.

However, this was before the Disney/Fox merger, and when that deal happened, it appeared as though Doctor Doom had been cancelled, one of the many, many fatalities that occurred when Disney started cherry-picking which Fox projects to ditch.

Why It's Not Dead

Regardless of the merger though, there's still an incredibly slim chance that Hawley's Doctor Doom movie might actually get made.

In March 2019, Hawley told THR that he'd met with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige to talk about the project, and earlier this year, he told Deadline that he was still very much interested in getting it off the ground.

These are by no means confirmations that the movie will happen, but they're positive signs nonetheless. And truth be told, it's actually pretty encouraging that Feige would even be interested in Hawley's script in the first place - maybe he wants to incorporate Hawley's ideas into an MCU Fantastic Four movie?

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
