10 Cancelled Movies (That SECRETLY Lived On)
7. Die Hard: Troubleshooter
The Film
It's not entirely fair to say that Die Hard 3 was cancelled, but it went through so many different iterations before it became Die Hard With A Vengeance (which itself was actually based on a script that was supposed to be a Lethal Weapon movie).
Before that decision was made, Die Hard 3 would have seen John McClane on a Caribbean cruise ship and would have been called Troubleshooter, which makes it sound like he'd hung up his police badge to be an IT consultant. It was abandoned when the studio realised it would be way too much like Under Siege.
How It Lived On
Clearly not THAT concerned about copying Under Siege, 20th Century Fox later went back to the Die Hard: Troubleshooter script when they were looking for a way to capitalise on the success of Speed with a sequel. That sequel's development proved to be difficult too and instead of relying on one of their new suggested ideas, they simply went back to the cruise ship idea.
They might not have had Keanu Reeves, but they had a ready-made new John McClane wannabe played by Jason Patric. The results were predictably uninspiring.
