10 Cancelled Movies That Would Have Made Billions

8. Newt

Pixar

Pixar movies make a lot of money, no matter how good they are. Usually they're anything but naff, of course, but the occasional dud (ahem: Cars 2) will slip through the cracks. Generally speaking, then, pretty much any Pixar movie has the potential to make a billion dollars - Toy Story 3 managed it, and Finding Nemo came very, very close (its belated sequel, coming next year, presumably will).

Which is to say that Newt, Pixar's infamous cancelled project, had a fairly good chance of achieving such a dream; everything about it seemed prime for monetary success, after all, what with its cutesy plot about a rare type of newt who is forced to mate with the last female newt of their species, and... wait a minute, doesn't that plot sound a lot like the one in that DreamWorks animated movie? Rio?

Rumour has it that the similarities with Rio were precisely the reason why Pixar cancelled the movie; they realised that another movie with an identical premise was in development and jumped ship. Still, what with its irrestisable plot and sure to be loveable characters, Newt had a real shot at hitting the box office big-time. Shame it'll never see the light of day, given that Rio wasn't all that great or memorable.
