10 Casting Choices That Will Make Or Break Upcoming Movies
1. Jared Leto - Ares (Tron: Ares)
Though Tron fans are excited that a third film is now finally shooting after years of delays, that enthusiasm is muted somewhat by the polarising lead casting choice.
The ensemble cast is led by Jared Leto, who will play the title character Ares, said to be a sentient program which enters the real world.
Given that Ares is the Greek god of war and Leto tends towards playing villains, there's a strong chance he'll be playing a major bad guy, even if reports suggest that Evan Peters will actually be portraying the primary antagonist.
Even so, whether you get a good or bad performance out of Leto is basically a coin flip these days - he's a tremendous talent, for sure, yet often lets his own self-conscious acting quirks and tics get in the way of serving the material.
The last thing most Tron fans want is Leto putting on a mug-fest and derailing the whole thing, which is certainly entirely possible.
Then again, if he can lean into his natural menace and the uneasy aura he gives off, this just might get him back in viewers' good graces.
