10 Casting Decisions Fanboys Rallied Against (And Were Right About)

8. Arnold Schwarzenegger - Mr. Freeze - Batman & Robin

Batman and Robin It seems ludicrous to complain about a single performance in the Godawful cinematic crime that is Batman & Robin, but Arnold Schwarzenegger's tone deaf abomination of an attempt at playing Mr. Freeze ranks right up there as one of the lesser components f the movie (and that really is saying something). And no wonder: Schwarzenegger was probably the most ill-fitting actor imaginable to play this otherwise underrated Batman villain. What was Joel Schumacher thinking? Fans of the comic knew that Schwarzenegger was wrong from the start, of course: Mr. Freeze may seem like a broad and uninspired villain, but he's probably a lot more complex than most people realise. That's to say, delve into the comics and you'll find a tragic, complicated character, driven to crime through circumstance. You'd never know that from the way Arnie plays him, of course, because he's just a pun-machine. To be fair, a tragic character had no place in this movie anyway. Still, fanboys were right when they raged against this particular casting decision - "ice work," guys (sorry).
