10 Changes That Make Beauty And The Beast Worse Than The Original

8. Maurice's Motivation Is Off

Maurice is no longer the oddball inventor of the village, rejected and outcast as his daughter is. Instead, he is portrayed as a mournful artist, seeking perfection in his sculptures and paintings.

Whilst the warmness of his relationship with his daughter Belle is still present, the Maurice of the 2017 film is not looking to leave their peaceful village; he is instead content to sit back in what feels like a semi-retirement and dole out occasional nuggets of advice to Belle.

The film also dares change his visit to the castle in a completely odd way. Instead of being fascinated by the inanimate objects come-to-life in the Beast's castle, (remembering he's an inventor and loves eccentric contraptions), Maurice of 2017 is instead terrified.

He flees the castle without rudely assuming the master's chair and it's only when he stops to steal a white rose from the castle gardens that he's caught by the Beast. An utterly foolish and unnecessary change to the original script.

What's more, why would the Beast even be out wandering the castle gardens during the midst of a STORM?!
