10 Characters Cruelly Recast Before They Made It Big

8. Sabretooth (X-Men Origins: Wolverine)

Originally Played By: Tyler Mane is primarily a stuntman rather than an actor, but that didn't stop him from giving a surprisingly great performance as fanged brute Sabretooth. Though basically one of Magneto's lackeys, his initial brawl with Wolverine is extremely memorable, and I hoped to see him appear in future X-Men films, which sadly he hasn't to date. Recast As: Liev Schreiber took the role for the Wolverine prequel movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which had Victor Creed aka Sabretooth getting a substantial fleshing-out character-wise. It's easy to see why they recast the role with an actor of Schreiber's caliber (and it clearly wasn't an age thing for the sake of the prequel), given the added gravitas required, yet considering how unexpectedly well Mane did in the part originally, I would have been interested to see his interpretation of the character. Yes, Origins turned out to be a pretty terrible film on the whole, but one of the few things it did get right was its depiction of Sabretooth, even if it's very easy to forget that.
