10 Characters That Need To Be Introduced In Future DC Movies
The DCEU needs variety, and here's how to get there.
Say what you like about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but they have managed to sell audiences on obscure characters like Guardians Of The Galaxy and properties that some would consider risky, such as Ant-Man, Thor and Doctor Strange. Whether you like them or not, critics have been proved wrong by the financial and critical success of each one of these films.
We're are a few years away from everyone uniting in the two-part Infinity saga. Meanwhile, despite their box office success, attempts by DC and Warner Brothers to replicate this has been a mixed bag.
We have seen Superman twice, Batman again only a few years after Christian Bale's iconic turn, and only now, decades after their comics debut, are we seeing the likes of Wonder Woman and The Flash. Now is the time to throw caution to the wind and take a risk on some more obscure DC characters, or at least those less famous to the general public.
Here are 10 suggestions, some villains but mainly heroes, for characters we should see from DC/Warner Bros. in the next few years. Some you'll know, some like Zatanna and Black Canary were excluded as they are rumoured to appear in upcoming movies like Justice League, but all deserve a shot on the big screen...
10. Lobo
Long-rumoured but unlikely to appear in the DCEU any time soon, Lobo would be a shock to the system in the same way that Deadpool was for the Fox's X-Men franchise. And we all know how that turned out, critically and commercially.
Like a cross between the Silver Surfer and Sons of Anarchy, Lobo is a mercenary, a bounty hunter and an intergalactic alien biker. Best known for his later iteration as an antihero that was a parody of dark and gritty antiheroes, so would be the perfect way for the DCEU to make fun of itself and along with The Flash, inject a much-needed sense of humour into the universe.
Giving Lobo his own low-budget movie makes sense as the DCEU is more tuned to darker, more adult films. He would be not seem out of place among the DCEU film currently released, much like Deadpool, or to a less extent Howard the Duck.
Using Lobo as a way to open up the cosmic side of the DCEU would be a smart move- it really rests on getting a bold director and a distinctive director to make Lobo standout. The DCEU really needs a larger-than-life character, and Lobo would be the perfect choice.
