10 Classic "American" Actors You Won't Believe Are Actually Foreign

9. Walter Pidgeon

Canadian Walter Pidgeon is perhaps one of the best character actors to work in the Classic Hollywood period. Known for his roles as the handsome, debonair types, he started out his career thanks to early musicals. He did not reach true stardom until the 1940s in which he made eight films opposite Greer Garson, usually as a married couple, most famously in the WWII melodrama Mrs. Miniver. His most famous and best role came from the underrated John Ford classic, How Green Was My Valley, in which he portrayed the patriarch of a family as the time is a-changing. Of course, who can discount his appearance in the cult classic Forbidden Planet and the Barbra Streisand vehicle Funny Face. Walter Pidgeon was a great underrated actor who had an established persona each time he appeared on-screen.
