10 Classic Movie Monsters That Will Haunt Your Dreams

5. Chucky the Homicidal Doll - Child's Play (1988)

chucky 300x600 Another admission - I am terrified of Chucky. As soon as I see that little red haired git, my hackles rise. I do not find his latter films - Bride of Chucky or Seed of Chucky - to be scary, but back in 1988 when Child's Play was first released and I was 10 years old, it was not Child's Play, it was Child's Frigging Terror. I have a thing about inanimate objects coming to life, especially dolls and when Chucky snarled "Hey! I'm Chucky! Wanna Play?" you cannot imagine the terror this brought to me as a nipper. I had to empty my room of all my WWE figures because I thought they would come to life and stage murderous wrestling matches before my eyes! Before he redeemed himself as a standup comedian, Chucky would go on to further controversy with Child's Play 3 being blamed for inspiring the Jamie Bulger murderers. You probably all think I am a freak with my fear of Chucky but just you try having a bizarre dream with a red haired renegade psycho dolly on the loose and you will feel my pain! Not a nice dream, no way...

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
