2. Freddie Kruger - Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Freddie Kruger will haunt your dreams. He will literally haunt your dreams. That's just what he does. Dirty old kiddie killer Freddie Kruger got burnt alive by the enraged parents in a small Ohioan town and returns from beyond the grave years later to kill their children again by somehow infiltrating their dreams and murdering them from within. I will admit to being scared senseless by Freddie Kruger. He is a great Horror villain with his trademark hat, striped jumper and razor sharp claws. When I was a child, I was left unsupervised to watch the TV series Freddie's Nightmares, and it scared the absolute bejaysus out of me. Just there now, the phone rang, and because we are talking about Freddie Kruger, I jumped a mile high in fright! He sort of became a parody of himself in subsequent Nightmare on Elm Street sequels - very wisecracking and cackling. I enjoyed all of the franchise's films. They were very inventive in their ways to kill promiscuous teenagers and thy were always good for a laugh (although Freddie still fundamentally scared me). So try and stay awake as long as you can tonight because Freddie just might come a-haunting your dreams!

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
