There are certain classic films sewn into the tapestry of Western culture which we assume have always been celebrated by both movie-goers and critics alike, save by those few 'Comic Book Guy' types who there's no pleasing. However, while these films are thought to be classics in contemporary culture, they faced a radically different verdict upon their initial release. Some failed to perform at box-office, some were panned critically and some received both the scorn of critics and consumers. Sometimes a film will be too ahead of its time to be appreciated by audiences while other times a movie can deal with themes too outrageous for the more easily shocked movie goers of time gone by. It seems quite unbelievable that these now widely accepted classics verged on being branded flops.
