10 Classic Movies Nobody Wanted At The Time
6. Blade Runner - (1982, Ridley Scott)
Blade Runner, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of its release last year, amazingly isn't entirely eclipsed by the blockbusters of today in the visual effects department. A dazzling array of ground-breaking effects has time and time again been proven to be the groundwork from which the greatest Sci-Fi movies are born. Blade Runner is no different, consistently ranked by authorities like the American Film Institute as one of the best Sci-Fi films in the history of cinema. The film has also garnered a cult following even rivaling that of the Dude Lebowski. However, Ridley Scott's Sci-Fi epic initially bombed at box-office making just $6.15 million in its opening weekend compared to the hefty $28 million budget. This budget would only very narrowly be covered some years down the line. This commercial strife was catalysed by the film's polarisation of critics; while some appreciated the fine visuals many were highly critical of its pacing. Sheila Benson of the L.A Times headlined her review with the following quip:It must be noted that Ridley Scott repeatedly tweaked with the film after it initially hit cinemas, eventually re-releasing it as the director's cut we all know and love."Blade Crawler!"
