2. Prometheus’ Dumb Astronauts

Astronauts are usually a clever, logical bunch what with their jobs being to explore the last great unknown and all but the crew in Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel Prometheus are dumber than a box of rocks and their idiocy isn’t limited to just one scene.

Despite being expressly ordered by mission director Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) to avoid all contact with alien life, her crew pretty much immediately ignore her words of wisdom and commit virtually every don’t do in the book. They remove their space helmets on an unknown alien planet and messing around with ominous looking black goo to not running like the wind at the first sight of an evil-looking alien snake creature.

Stupidity must be catching because even voice of reason Vickers is a goner by the time the film ends, crushed to death trying to outrun a donut-shaped space ship she could’ve easily sidestepped – a rather dim-witted demise for one of the crew’s more logical members.
