10 Classic Movies That Almost Had Completely Different Plots

6. Alien 3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFaG3PiQnZQ I'm cheating a bit, here, because Alien 3 is not really a classic, especially when compared to its predecessors. My excuse is that it would have been a classic had Vincent Ward been able to make his version of the film. Just as Alien and Aliens were two very different takes on the same central idea, Vincent Ward's Alien 3 was going to shake things up again and take Ripley not to a prison planet, but to monastery planet, where a group of earth-exiled monks would be living a medieval, God-fearing lifestyle. Oh, and the monastery planet was made of wood. It was visionary, all right, so of course it was never going to be made. A behind the scenes shake-up led to Ward leaving the project. David Fincher, another great, visionary director soon joined the team but, being a human being and all, was not able to overcome the numerous production problems that the film faced. The film was released to, at best, mixed reviews. The only thing left of Ward's vision, meanwhile, are a few wistful reminiscences (his version gets some time on the Quadrilogy set) and some gorgeous concept art.

A gamer raised on too many RPGs. I enjoy making predictions about the direction of the gaming industry and revising them when they turn out to be wrong. I dislike cut scenes with an unhealthy passion, though am indifferent about pretty much everything else.
