Here it is, the film that people most commonly lie about having seen. Well, it's not one film but a trilogy, but still; one in three people, according to the LOVEFiLM research, had lied about having seen the Godfather and its sequels. There are many potential reasons for this, some of which have been discussed in previous entries. For one, like many other films people lie about watching, it is commonly called one of the greatest of all time - an immediately off-putting proposition. Secondly, as the sequel is frequently placed ahead of the original in terms of quality you have an added problem - people are hardly going to claim to just seeing the first one, are they? Thirdly, all three films clock in at around three hours each. Part II comes close to four hours long, an endurance test even for hardened movie buffs. The Godfather is iconic and crosses the divide between art and entertainment. The film is just as likely to be placed top of a list by Sight and Sound magazine as it is IMDb or Total Film. Clearly everyone has seen it. Well, evidently not everyone. If you're one of those that goes around claiming to have seen The Godfather when you know fine well that you haven't, do yourself a favour and go and watch it right now. Then watch Part II. You can skip Part III, if you like. Are there any movies that you have lied about seeing? Have your fiends or family even lied to you about what they've seen?
