10 Comic Book Characters That Need The Brightburn Treatment
2. Spider-Man
Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can... except, does he?
Spiders are amongst the most popular phobias around, and to some are the most terrifying creatures on our planet. A Brightburnt Spider-Man could play up to this idea and really explore the horror of what it means to be a Spider-Man.
Obviously Peter Parker’s ability to crawl up walls and shoot webs links into spiders, but are they really the things we think of when we think of arachnids? The eight legs, creepy crawly nature, the many eyes and the eating flies all come first.
Even the webs are linked more to catching prey than they are to swinging around New York City, saving civilians.
So why not reinvent the origin story? Make him a real Spider-Man? Bitten by the radioactive spider, our hero starts to mutate. He starts to hunger.
He’s still the loveable goofy, nerdy kid with a crush on the pretty girl, except now he spins webs to feast on unsuspecting prey. The great power and great responsibility line turned inwards, with Peter struggling to overcome his guilt while continuing to satiate his need to feast would be very dark indeed.
