10 Comic Book Characters You Wish You Could Be

1. Wonder Woman

Before this summer, people might have found it odd seeing Diana of Themyscira, Amazon princess and all-round demi-goddess on top of a list like this. To any doubters still out there after Patty Jenkins’s barnstormer of a movie, I’d simply say: this is Wonder Woman.

She’s the most important woman in comics, a role model for generations of women since World War II, and one of the most powerful superheroes in the DC Universe. Where Superman can be a bit of a boy scout, Diana is a warrior, unafraid of getting her hands dirty. Where Batman is a driven, frightening obsessive, Wonder Woman is a regal, compassionate advocate for peace and bringing mankind together.

Somehow managing to be both royalty and a woman of the people. Diana doesn’t just have the complete respect of the superhero community, but (as Blue Beetle once pointed out) everyone loves her, even Batman. Not only that, but Wonder Woman is literally the most beautiful woman in the world. That’s not hyperbole, and it’s not dependent on who draws her: that’s actually part of her job description.

So, just to recap: she’s one of DC’s Holy Trinity of classic characters, a female empowerment icon for decades, powerful on a level with Superman, Shazam, the Martian Manhunter et al, and the fiercest, kindest, most indomitable woman in popular culture, a living embodiment of virtue, beauty, courage and strength.

Someone that comic book fans want to be? There are superheroes that wish they were Wonder Woman.
