3. Howard The Duck Was Instrumental In The Formation Of Pixar Animation Studios
Howard The Duck was a truly terrible movie. Who thought that adapting a comic-book about a cigar-smoking duck into a live-action movie was a good idea? George Lucas, thats who. At least one good thing ultimately came out of this movie, and no, not that incredibly
awkward sex scene. George Lucas was in debt up to his eyeballs around the release of this movie. He had just spent $50-million on his Skywalker Ranch complex. This duck movie was going to be the film that would get him back on track. The film was, of course, a critical and commercial flop. Lucas started selling things off to stay afloat. His friend Steve Jobs offered to help out by buying Lucasfilms CGI animation division for an above market value price. Lucas agreed and that division went on to become Pixar Animation Studios. So, if youre a fan of Toy Story, A Bugs Life, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, Wall E, Brave or Up, you know what cigar-smoking duck to thank.
