10 Comic Book Movie Firings That Changed Everything

3. Peyton Reed - Fantastic Four

Peyton Reed directed Ant-Man, the Marvel Studios movie that came out earlier this year. This wasn€™t the first time he had been involved with a comic book movie project, though. He was €“ for quite a while €“ attached to the movie that became Tim Story€™s 2005 Fantastic Four film. "I went in, got the movie and I developed it for the better part of a year with three different sets of writers," he recently explained to Yahoo. However, "it became clear after a while that Fox had a very different movie in mind and they were also chasing a release date, so we ended up parting company. I felt like I couldn't make the movie I wanted to make in that environment.€ €œThey wanted to pitch it much younger than I wanted to, and I always felt like they were treating those characters like B-level characters. I never felt like they understood the real strength of that property." With Fox and Reed remaining professional, it€™s never been fully clarified whether Reed was sacked or if he chose to walk away. Either way, it doesn€™t sound like the happiest working environment.
