10 Comic Book Movie Plots That Rely On Idiotic Decisions

7. Thor Defies Odin To Invade Jotunheim (Thor)

When Thor's ceremony to commemorate his ascent to the throne of Asgard was taking place, it was interrupted when the Frost Giants of Jotunheim attempted to retrieve the coveted and powerful Casket of Ancient Winters from his father Odin€™s trophy room.

After the invasion and against Odin€™s strict orders, Thor travelled to Jotunheim to confront Laufey €“ the king of the Frost Giants €“ accompanied by his brother Loki, childhood friend Sif and the Warriors Three; Volstagg, Fandral and Hogun.

A battle inevitably ensues in which, after initially winning, the Asgardians are quickly outnumbered and cornered, forcing Odin to intervene in order to save them. The battle destroys the fragile truce between Jotunheim and Asgard that Odin had worked so hard to form and so he strips his son of his hammer Mjolnir (and thus, his godly power) and exiles him to Earth (Midgard) as a mortal.

That's the plot of the movie - Thor being stranded on Earth - and it stemmed from the fact that he decided ignoring Odin's orders would be a good idea.
