10 Comic Book Movies Everyone Loves To Hate

3. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

If you didn’t know that screenwriter David Goyer did an uncredited rewrite on Freddy Vs Jason you might be able to guess from Batman V Superman, which has exactly the same problem: it’s another high concept idea that must’ve looked great on paper.

Whereas FVJ took more than a decade to reach to screen, however, BVS landed on screens three years after Man Of Steel, and boy did they rush it. Zack Snyder’s movie has a real shot at being the dourest, most humourless Superman of them all, which works if the intent was to distance the character from Richard Donner’s movie, but is it really an improvement? One thing’s certain: Jesse Eisenberg’s twitchy, Razzie-winning take on Lex Luthor doesn’t rival our memories of Gene Hackman.

The first “flop” to gross $872 million, Batman Vs Superman is really no better or worse than Man Of Steel (make of that what you will) though it does cast doubt on DC’s ability to make good comic book movies without Christopher Nolan. Maybe they should stick to their current course before they attempt to “lighten the mood” by making another Superman III or Catwoman.
