10 Comic Book Movies That Aren't Based On Comic Books

8. Unbreakable

Having spooked up the place with The Sixth Sense, riddler extraordinaire M. Night Shyamalan tackled pulp heroics in this 2000 thriller. Bruce Willis looked like just another bald man in a raincoat, till brittle-boned egghead Samuel L. Jackson informed him he was an advanced form of bald man in a raincoat. Soon after Willis was displaying mind-boggling levels of strength and reading minds to squash crime. The idea was to make a comic book film that didn't shout from the rooftops, but rather let the concept reveal itself gradually. The result didn't perform well at the multiplex, though enough interest has persisted for a sequel to be talked up over the years. Jackson of course went onto become a mainstay of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Nick Fury. On the flipside of the coin, Shyamalan's rise faltered with the likes of animated adaptation disaster The Last Airbender before The Visit boosted his stock, so he could be eyeing Unbreakable 2 as a potential project.
