10 Comic Book Movies That Changed Characters For The Better
3. Drax - Guardians Of The Galaxy
His resolve? Steeled. His reflexes? Too fast. His nipples? Sensitive.
Those unfamiliar with the comic book version of the Guardians' second most green member can be forgiven in thinking that the character has always been an alien. Comics Drax first appears in The Invincible Iron Man #55 (alongside the first appearance of Thanos) as Arthur Douglas, a man who's wife and child is killed in a car crash caused by Thanos' spaceship.
In a bid to defeat Thanos, Arthur's spirit is placed into the body of "The Destroyer" (sporting a rather lovely purple cape) and sent to kill Thanos. This version of Drax is far stronger than the version seen in the films, with telepathy and the ability to travel through space without oxygen, food or water.
The MCU Drax is now an alien who's home planet was purged by Thanos, an idea that simplified the complicated spirits in artificial body plot point. Although some fans may deride this decision, it cannot be argued that it streamlined the character, and helped to provide the completely literal personality and alien sense of humour that has made Drax such a beloved staple of the MCU.
