1. Edgar Wright To Direct Star Wars Episode IX
J.J. Abrams is well into shooting the hugely-anticipated Star Wars Episode VII now, and we recently found out that Looper director Rian Johnson would be directing Episode VIII, as well as writing Episode IX. This leaves one question remaining: who, exactly, will be helming Episode IX? Though Disney are under no pressure to announce the director given that Episode IX is at least another 5 years off, the fact that they announced Johnson so ahead of time suggests they might well do the same for Episode IX in the near future...perhaps even this weekend. Of all the directors out there capable of making a magnificent Star Wars movie, Edgar Wright is at the top of the pack: he knows humour, stunning visuals and has staged thunderous action in the past, so how could he screw it up? We suspect that Wright might not be too thrilled about working from someone else's script, though perhaps if he was allowed to re-write parts of it to better suit his cinematic sensibilities, then that might be a fair compromise. Nothing would make us happier than seeing the former Ant-Man director being able to stick two fingers up at Marvel by attaching himself to one of the few projects that's more exciting than the MCU.
