10 Comic Stories You Should Read Before Phase 3 Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe
6. Avengers Disassembled: Thor
What better way to follow up the success of Thor: The Dark World than with a film about the end of everything. For those of you who dont know, Ragnarok refers to the Norse Apocalypse. In the original Norse epics, Odin is given a set of prophecies from an oracle concerning Ragnarok (which loosely translates to the twilight of the gods) where the Norse pantheon dies (who says comics arent educational?). So in light of the title for the third instalment of the Thor franchise, it looks like Marvel will be capping off the trilogy with Thor facing the cold, harsh reality of death and oblivion. Sounds uplifting, right? Although Norse myth only mentions Ragnarok in prophecies and never actually chronicles its events, some 2000 years later Marvel decided that their version of Thor needed to face the end of days. Serving as a prelude/tie-in to the 2006 Avengers Disassembled storyline, Avengers Disassembled: Thor recounts Marvels version of Ragnarok. Written by Michael Avon Oeming with art by Andrea Divito, Avengers Disassembled: Thor collects issues #80-85 of Thor. While this story arc is somewhat continuity heavy, culminating eight years of storytelling, this arc is relatively self-explanatory. Oeming does a great job of setting up the context for the events within the narrative; as long as you have a grasp on the basic premise of Thor and are familiar with his supporting cast, this will be an excellent primer for the up coming Thor film.
Since childhood, Bryant has been an avid fan of superheroes, and he has been reading comic books since 2006. His full name is "George Bryant Lucas"; however, after enduring countless Darth Vader jokes, he has chosen to go by his middle name. Born and raised in the United States, Bryant is currently living with his lovely wife in the country side of Wiltshire County, UK. Bryant does suffer from a mild case of dyslexia; misspellings and homonyms are to be expected on occasion.
