10 Comics You Must Read Before Avengers: Infinity War

1. Vision: Little Worse Than A Man

The Vision Tom King
Marvel

Marvel are no strangers to implementing some good old fashioned misdirection in their marketing campaigns (Civil War only recently included that shot of Rhodey 'dying' in its first trailer), but it would be a remarkable feat for the company to dodge that shot of the Vision from Infinity War's teaser.

It certainly looks as though everyone's favourite Android could be in for a torrid time of things next April, and while it's true the Vision of the comics never had to rely on a cosmic marble to keep them going, it's hard to imagine the MCU's surviving for long if his stone's plucked from his forehead. With a potential death in mind, there's no better Vision comic to read than Tom King's 'Worse Than A Man', a harrowing tale of suburbia and one man's quest to be normal.

The genius of King's comic is that it serves as a detailed character study of the Vision, asking big questions and detailing the collapse of the character's very own American Dream.

Fans will be hard-pressed to find a series as heartfelt or as intelligent as King's Vision, and while there's plenty in the character's library to get through before Infinity War, this should, ideally, be at the top of everyone's list.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
