4. Frankenstein's Monster in Frankenstein (1931)
Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's Monster is the grandfather of all misunderstood villains. However, surely scientist Henry Frankenstein should be the villain instead of the protagonist! He is the one who created this 'monster' from an assortment of carcases for his own pleasure. Frankenstein's monster, who cannot help looking as gaunt as he does, is not to blame for his untamed primal ways. I can't help but feel sorry for the careless creature, especially whilst he throws young girl Maria in the lake thinking she will float like the flowers they were previously playing with. His display of regret clearly highlights his attempted social skills were misunderstood. In fact, if he scrubbed up a little, I believe he could easily pass as Roald Dahl's BFG (Big Friendly Giant)...
