8. Blue Heaven - Outlaw Star

Ego Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2
Netflix

Outlaw Star is what you get when you take the optimism of Star Trek and the pessimism of Alien and fuse them together into one show that carves its own path straight down the middle. The world it portrays is too hopeful for humanity's future for the pessimists, but also too dangerous for the optimistic. And the world that perfectly encapsulates that is Blue Heaven.

Apart from its tone, what really sets Outlaw Star apart is its aesthetic, which can best be described as "Tao-Futurist". From the buildings, to the clothes, to the magic system, everything about this show's design is Taoist down to the marrow. Blue Heaven embodies this design, where even the aliens have this look to them that's consistent with the architecture of the rest of the asteroid colony.

Blue Heaven is what you get if Mos Eisely spaceport was just a little bit more held together. Still a den of lawlessness and villainy, but order is mostly maintained by two facts. One is that it's a very strategically placed spaceport, so no one wants to blow it up or else a lot of ships on a lot of planets have to risk running out of fuel before the next station. The second part is that it's built on an asteroid, so one wrong bullet, and everyone flies out into the cold vacuum of space.

Some say an armed society is a polite society, Blue Heaven says in response "a polite society is one where any idiot can kill literally all of them".
