The production history of Wes Craven's horror movie Cursed is fundamentally scarier than the final film; the script was rewritten, roles were recast and the film basically shot twice after production shut down for over a year. During the delay, almost a whole cast was forced to drop out and move on to other projects. Robert Forster, a Hollywood veteran so good in Jackie Brown (for which he was Oscar-nominated for Best Supporting Actor), was one of the victims of what was surely one of Hollywood's most brutal culls outside of a Terrence Malick movie. Forster wasn't the only one: James Brolin, Mandy Moore, Omar Epps, Corey Feldman and Skeet Ulrich all ended up on the cutting room floor right along with him. When the film was finally released, with a cast including Christina Ricci and Jesse Eisenberg, it was met with some of the harshest reviews of Craven's career. Which is an almost admirable achievement for the man also responsible for The Hills Have Eyes Part II.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
