4. Meet The Feebles - Peter Jackson
Before everyone's favorite Kiwi produced bloated high fantasy epics staring sasquatch-footed little people he was a known B movie director. Jackson's early works existed in the dark corners of the video store far removed from the main stream. It's hard to choose which of Jackson's early works dove the furthest down the gonzo gore strewn slapstick rabbit hole, but for my money Meet The Feebles is the most bizarre film put out there by someone now considered a mainstream director. What we have here are essentially Muppets committing murder, making porn and doing drugs amongst other things. Offensive comedies can be funny but the Feebles just go far beyond the pale in an almost endless parade of depravity. The entire experience is surreal but not in a good way. Meet the Feebles feels like a self-indulgent "wouldn't it be funny if?" moment amongst friends who all found each other terribly funny one night while drinking. The next morning instead of realizing their folly decided to commit fully to their madness. The result is sporadically humorous but is mostly offensive and puerile. One can only stomach so many puppet orgasms and gory puppet deaths before waving the white flag of surrender.
