10 Crazy Sacrifices Actors Made For A Role (That Totally Backfired)

6. Mickey Rourke Purposely Cut Himself Even Though A Prosthetic Was Reader - The Wrestler

This one makes the list because of how stupidly unnecessary it was. Mickey Rourke was perfect in his role as Randy 'The Ram' Robinson in The Wrestler and he drew plenty of praise from the critics in this relatively low-budget triumph. There was no major physical transformation necessary for this film because Rourke was already there. Learning to wrestle wasn't such a push either, since the actor had already spent years in the ring as a professional boxer. The sacrifice in this movie that backfired is when 'The Ram' fakes injury in the ring, using a hidden razor blade to cut his face. Once the cameras were rolling Rourke took out his trusty razor and did just that - he cut himself. The thing is, director Daniel Aronofsky had already had the prosthetics team working on creating a fake mask which could be used in the scene waiting in the wing. Rourke must have missed the memo.
