10 Crazy Sacrifices Actors Made For A Role (That Totally Backfired)

3. Jim Carrey Gained 30lbs Then Quit - The Three Stooges

When Jim Carrey signed on for The Three Stooges in 2009 it seemed he'd found the perfect role as famous dunce, Curly. He was taking his job seriously too, pledging to gain over 50lbs for the part in order to make it more believable - he argued 'I don't think a fat suit does it'. Unfortunately 20-30lbs was enough for Carrey, and just as he approached the halfway mark, he quit, suggesting it was due to worries about his health. While it might seem like he took the money and ran, he was talking sense when he suggested actors in their 20s or 30s could deal with the pressure of transformation better than an older guy. Once a person hits 50 it's not so easy to put on the weight and lose it again straight after. It really is a big thing to ask of the human body.
