10 Creepiest Movie Mistakes Ever

7. The Fading Twin - Dead Ringers

David Cronenberg's masterful psychological thriller Dead Ringers is already plenty disturbing as it is - and, unlike Cats, mostly intentionally so. Like Cats, however, its technical limitations also resulted in some accidental added creepiness.

During an early scene where identical twins Beverly and Elliot Mantle (Jeremy Irons) are talking, Elliot walks away from his brother on the right-hand side of the screen, and those who look closely can actually see Elliot literally fade out of existence before their very eyes.

Because the twin effect was produced through clever compositing of separate takes, and the film's 1988 release predates more complex visual effects shots, Cronenberg clearly assumed nobody would notice the two shots being blended as Elliot exits the frame.

But this being the Internet, of course they did.

Ultimately this is one of those mistakes that only amps up the film's already pervasively ominous atmosphere, coincidentally supporting its themes of dualism and questionable reality.
