2. The Boat Trip - Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory

Roald Dahl strikes again! He wrote the original source novel for the previously mentioned The Witches, but he is more well known for this story about poor Charlie Bucket winning a tour through the fantastical chocolate factory of crazed candy inventor Willy Wonka.

It immediately starts to get dark and creepy as the other children on the tour are picked off one by one, behaving poorly and being punished in disturbing ways by some machination or process within the beautiful but dangerous factory.

The most chilling moment, the one that would have sent any child I knew running from the factory screaming, was the chocolate river ferry tunnel. Wonka sings what seems like a nice song, but it slowly grows darker and more disturbing. Behind him, images play of centipedes crawling across people's faces and chickens getting their heads cut off. Then the slow screaming begins...
