10 Creepy Movie Moments That Gave Us Nightmares As Kids

7. Flying Monkeys

monkey Unlike the Skeksis, the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz are comprised of relatively benign ingredients. We've all been to the zoo, and the monkeys are adorable. They look kind of like people, but have little tiny hands and fuzzy faces and can hang upside down. And birds are okay too, I suppose. But the Gestalt which makes up the creature that has sworn allegiance to the Wicked Witch is enough to keep any child up all night with a flashlight and fort made of bed sheets. Another thing these winged primates have going for them is strength in numbers. I'm by no means a Charles Bronson-type, but I'm pretty sure I could take a flying monkey or two. But when the Wicked Witch's theme song places and these blue-faced monsters descend from the sky, there are more of them than there were Birds in the movie The Birds. And that was a lot of goddamn birds. The only thing worse than a flying monkey from the Wizard of Oz is the fact that in the book, these things could talk. Sweet Christ, I think if that would've been in the film I would've ended up living in a straight-jacket and claiming the radio is plotting against me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SESI19h4wDo
